If you run a business in British Columbia, the B.C. Employer Training Grant (ETG) can cover a large share of the cost of training your team. Here’s how it works, in plain English.
What the ETG covers
The ETG reimburses employers for up to 80% of eligible training costs, to a maximum of $10,000 per participant per fiscal year, and $300,000 per employer per fiscal year. You pay the training cost up front, then claim the government’s share back.
Who’s eligible
- Businesses and organisations operating in B.C. that have been fully operational for at least one year.
- You’ll need a Business BCeID and a Canada Revenue Agency number.
- Training must build new, job-related skills for the participant and be delivered by an eligible third-party training provider.
The grant is designed for skills training - not for consulting, coaching, conferences, or maintaining existing certifications.
How to apply, briefly
- Confirm you’re an eligible employer.
- Choose a training program and the participants who’ll take it.
- Each participant completes the online Participant Information Form (PIF) before you submit.
- Apply through the Skills Training Grants System with your Business BCeID - before training starts.
- Train, pay in full, then submit receipts to claim your reimbursement.
Decisions are made by the Ministry at its sole discretion, and you - the employer - must apply directly; a training provider can’t apply on your behalf.
